Congratulations to all involved for making our 21st SteamFest a real coming of age celebration. Not only did everything run relatively smoothly but we hosted a record crowd exceeding 8000 paying patrons at our site over the 3 days along with in the order of another 1000 stall holders, exhibitors, volunteers, complimentary ticket holders and invited guests. We also realized after the event that we had 21 large engines (we are including the “Lykamobile”) in steam and on display for the event. (Check RWC website for the list!)

The media coverage has been exceptional and we have ranked highly as a great event to attend in the eyes of many mainland enthusiasts, machinery magazine and travel journalists. Dick Smith who opened our 21st SteamFest even ranked SteamFest Tasmania as one of the best steam events he had attended internationally.

I must compliment the team of volunteers who made it happen – particularly Judy on all things admin, Angela Cannell for an exceptional year in the stalls with well over 100 food and craft stalls, the Cannell family who put in 200% keeping the show on the road and filling many of the volunteer spaces, Mitchell and Daniel who were always there to do the many odd jobs that needed to be done during the weekend, Barb and the ladies who looked after the catering, Stuart who took on the safety coordinator role, Simon for looking after the gates and parking and the numerous other volunteers on the gates, the Scouts for looking after rail level crossings.

We were understaffed – particularly on the Sunday and Monday to keep the show running perfectly smoothly so if you are one of our many local members that we did not see volunteering for the event – we need you for next year!
